VOLUNTEERING

For our volunteers and visitors the stay at the Reearth Camp consists of some of the best memories from South East Asia.

The Reearth festival and projects in Thailand is a close co-operation between a group of friends in the music-, media- and travel industry and local communities. The aim is to explore and spread awareness about positive solutions for tourism and nature conservation.

Are you or someone you know interested in helping out?

21 JAN – 24 FEB 2013 YOU CAN STAY WITH US

A stay in our camp is a memory for life! Live and work with us and our local Thai friends. Work with the environmental projects Reearth are involved in or help out with other things that you are interested in. By the beach at our secluded area we have our own beach bar to supply the volunteers with after work activities. Our beach bar is the perfect hang out during night time. Every week there is something special going on, big and small parties, arranged by us or by our partners. A fun and affordable volunteer package mainly for backpackers.

FOOD
We buy the food locally and make dinner together, but it is also possible to buy your food at the local restaurant. During the working days lunch is provided for you.

WORK
The most important job is to help The Green Island Project on Koh Samui in their effort in building 8000 small erosion dams to minimize flooding, increase vegetation, increase ground water levels and increase the chances of the coastal ecosystem to rejuvenate. As the weather is warm, we have set a limit on physical work to four hours per day. Right now the most important work consits of building erosion dams, read more about the dam project.

ACCOMMODATION
You live in tents in our volunteer village. You probably already have travel sheets, if not, blanket, pillows, bed sheets, air mattress are included in the packages. The area has showers and toilets. The tents are equipped with a small fan or portable A/C. One tent accommodates 4-6 people depending on design and has 3 sections. All tents are brand new and modern Primus 6-people tents in three sections. You live with us on the festival area where the security is high. As in the past years, we cooperate with local police and local hospitals to ensure maximum safety and security.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

The first ever environmental impact assessment of a music festival in this type of environment took place during the festival Feb 2011 and Feb 2012. This award winning thesis was made in cooperation with a researcher from the esteemed environmental research organization Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and The World Conservation Union (IUCN). Reearth will use the findings from the 2011/2012 and start to implement the findings in 2013. This can range from innovative ways to serve beverages to garbage separation. The Reearth volunteers are more than welcome to be part of this process. In the late afternoon we arrange afterwork activities on the beach every day for 5 weeks and in the evenings you can watch movies, play board games or just hang out at the beach bar. Our friends in the environmental organizations are present during your stay, so if you are eager to learn there are good opportunities for additional information beyond the workshops and volunteer work.

International environment groups describe the Reearth project as unique in many different ways. Reearth works with the local community which is the best, fun and most special part of the project . The projects is an important experiment to see what all the stakeholders can achieve if working towards a common goal in a mutual beneficiary partnership.
